Since we live in an always-on world which is hyper-connected and overburdened with information, sleep has become a luxury indeed.
With most of us being glued to the screen of our smart devices, and addicted to it like it’s the very oxygen we breathe, this behavior is taking a serious toll on our emotional, mental, and physical well-being. It’s indisputable that the amount of sleep we get each night has a huge impact on one’s overall well-being. But getting the right amount of sleep is easier said than done with so many distractions around.
Hence, now half of the population deals with some kind of insomnia. What Is Insomnia? Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep for long even when a person has a chance to do so is classified as Insomnia. People suffering from this condition can feel dissatisfied with their sleep routine and may experience low energy, fatigue, mood fluctuations and decreased performance at work or school due to concentration issues. So how long does it last? Insomnia may be characterized based on its duration which can be situation-based. Like, Acute Insomnia which is brief and often occurs when the individual is undergoing some stress. This is quite common, and it tends to resolve by itself without any medical intervention. The second is Chronic Insomnia, a state of disturbed sleep that happens at least for three consecutive nights. This condition can have multiple causes like a shift in the working environment, medications, some clinical conditions.
Chronic insomnia may also be linked to another medical, or psychiatric conditions although determining the exact cause, and effect relationship is a bit difficult. Individuals suffering from this condition can benefit from some form of treatment to help them get back to their healthy sleep cycle.
